Electrology
Electrology is the science of permanent hair removal through a series of treatments. The Food and Drug Administration as well as the American Medical Association recognize only electrolysis as permanent hair removal. It has stood the test of time through many years, since it was first used in 1875 to remove an ingrown eyelash.
Today, each hair is treated individually with a fine disposable, hair-thin probe. This probe is expertly inserted down the follicle, alongside the hair until it reaches the root. A minute amount of heat is then applied to destroy the root. The hair is gently lifted from the follicle. Multiple treatments are required in order to completely destroy the hair. Coarser hairs require more treatments than fine hairs and thinning out an area needs fewer treatments than complete removal.
All of the body areas can be treated with electrolysis including the face, neck, arms, stomach, bikini area, chest, breasts, underarms, feet, toes, hands, fingers and the outside of the ears. These treatments can also be used as a follow-up to laser hair removal. Electrolysis eliminates any hair and safely treats all skin types.
Our Registered Electrologists are licensed in the state of Massachusetts. We have completed an 1100 hour course of training and successfully passed a practical exam as well as a written exam. These courses and exams are regulated and administered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Board of Electrology. In order to renew and maintain our license, we are required to complete continuing education classes, which are randomly audited.
Westwood Electrolysis follows strict standards for Infection Control written by the American Electrology Association. These standards comply with the most recent recommendations from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Association for Practitioners in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC).
Only disposable probes are used. We dry-heat sterilize our non-disposable instruments and we are a latex free environment.
